Dedicated to the memory of our dearest friend, Ben

This site is a tribute to Ben Jacobs, a remarkable and kind husband, father, son, brother, friend, and athlete. Born in Ipswich, Suffolk, on April 17, 1976, Ben inspired countless lives with his warmth and generosity.

Ben was an inspiring athlete, especially talented in endurance running and cycling. He embraced life to the fullest, constantly seeking new challenges through increasingly demanding endurance races that tested both his physical strength and mental resilience.

Despite his remarkable abilities and well-deserved respect as a competitor, Ben was admired by people from all walks of life for his humility, non-materialistic nature, and calm demeanour. He always made time to encourage others, inviting everyone to experience the joy of running and cycling. More than just sharing his passion, Ben's true life’s work was using these sports as a way to help others become the best version of themselves.

The world is truly poorer without him.

Thoughts

Reflecting on the past year since you left us, I feel enthralled by the power of your words about living life to the fullest. You always emphasised the preciousness of each moment, reminding us how suddenly it can all change. Your conviction in embracing every opportunity and finding joy in each experience resonates deeply with me, perhaps even more so now. Like many others, I will do my best to observe your optimistic perspective by focusing on the positives and not dwelling on the negatives, though I know it will not always be as effortless as you made it seem. As an athlete, you embodied this philosophy with fulfilment, taking on countless challenges and creating many memories we marvel at. One of the great difficulties of your loss lies in knowing that, while you achieved so much, there were still so many pursuits you wanted to fulfil and so many experiences we wanted to share with you. While life goes on, and I know through your teaching that there will be more to enjoy experiencing, the world is undeniably poorer without you. Your humility, simple approach to life, and calm presence left a lasting impact on all of us. You faced every challenge gracefully and constantly reminded us of what truly matters. Your passion for life felt limitless, and that spirit inspired all of us to aim higher. I miss seeing you at the front of our events, setting the pace while I do my best to keep up. #BeMoreBen.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
